The Friends in Need Food Shelf is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving the communities of Cottage Grove, Newport, St. Paul Park and Grey Cloud Island.

​At the Friends in Need food shelf, we work to help our community primarily by distributing food to the hungry but also through programs for school supplies and the holidays, as well as referrals to other agencies. We also have a small Emergency Fund which allows us to give one-time financial help for things like car repairs, prescriptions, glasses, rental assistance and bill assistance.  The recipients of our assistance include low income, seniors, homeless, and middle class who might be experiencing a crisis.   We offer rides to those without transportation and deliveries to the disabled.

The need is greater than ever this year.  At the Friends in Need food shelf, we provide more than the state average. Because of fiscally conservative spending, wise food purchasing, and the generous donations from our community, we allow clients to come every other week rather than once a month, which is the norm for food shelves.
